About the Event

Join PCHC-MoM and Capilano University as we host a special Women’s History Month gathering centered on storytelling, intergenerational memory, and cross-border women’s experiences. The session will feature readings and open discussion with author Dr. Keiko Honda and poet Sophea Heang.

About the Speakers

Dr. Keiko Honda

Dr. Keiko Honda is a writer, former cancer epidemiologist, and founder of the Vancouver Arts Colloquium Society. Writing from her wheelchair, she explores the intersections of civic life, art, and embodied observation. She teaches the aesthetics of co-creation and zuihitsu at Simon Fraser University. Recognized with the 2025 King Charles III Coronation Medal, she is the author of Accidental Blooms, Hidden Flowers, The Broken Map Home, and Words That Last.

Sophea Heang

Sophea Heang is a spoken word artist, writer, and poet. She is deeply inspired by the river, trees, her family, friends, and communities. Often, she is walking barefoot along the beach, taking in the vast source of gifts she receives. Moving within threads of personal and collective memory, resilience, and potential, Sophea is completing her first book, a memoir, Remember Me in Stillness. Sweet Tamarind Tree and A Letter to My Mother: Dear Mak are poems from the manuscript.
