Historic Musqueam Event

Last week PCHC-MoM members had the honour of being invited to a historic event at the Musqueam Cultural Centre, celebrating the past, present, and future relationship between Chinese and First Nations peoples. The event brought together community members, Chinese Canadian associations, individuals with historic links to the Chinese Market Gardens formerly at Musqueam, and political dignitaries, who all gathered together to share stories and a delicious meal, which included generously donated roasted pigs and amazing BBQ salmon! The Chinese and First Nations communities have come together over food for years, and we were happy to continue this tradition. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Chief Wayne Sparrow and the Musqueam nation for hosting such a wonderful event. We had the privilege of speaking with so many great people, including the Honourable Teresa Wat, Acting Mayor Raymond Louie, and Richard T. Lee, MLA of Burnaby North. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to celebrate such a historic and important intercultural and intergenerational relationship with such a wonderful group of people.Special thanks also go out to PCHC-MoM honourary advisor Larry Grant and board member Howard Grant.
