Congratulations! Catherine Clement Awarded the B.C. Lieutenant Governor’s Medal
Congratulations to our member Catherine Clement for winning the B.C. Lieutenant Governor’s Medal in Historical Writing for her book, Chinatown Through a Wide Lens: The Hidden Photographs of Yucho Chow. Catherine was also featured at our “Ancestors in our Attics” webinar in May. Our Executive Director Winnie L. Cheung worked side by side with her to translate tightly written paragraphs into Chinese in this book, which was published in both English and Chinese by our partner Chinese Canadian Historical Society of BC in 2020.
PCHC is proud to be a partner of this important project on Yucho Chow’s photographs, which has produced a very popular exhibition in 2019, an award-winning book in 2020 and a community archive to be launched soon in 2021. This project speaks to a central mission of PCHC: documenting the hidden stories of the marginalized communities and exploring the connections between different cultural groups in Pacific Canada.
