Word Vancouver 2025
Word Vancouver is Western Canada’s largest free literary arts festival that brings together writers, and community members to celebrate creativity, culture, and storytelling. This event is held annually in September, it offers a platform for authors, arts, publishers, and organizations to showcase their work and connect to the community.
This year Word Vancouver took place on Saturday, September 20th from 11:00am-5:00pm, at Robson Square in Downtown Vancouver. PCHC-MoM was fortunate to have a full-sized table at this prestigious event, which drew several visitors throughout the day. The tables were filled with a wide range of exhibits, from authors to artists, to tarot readers, to publishers, to mental health awareness campaigns and non-profit organizations.
Our presence at Word Vancouver helped cultivate unique opportunities to share PCHC-MoM’s mission, which is to preserve and celebrate migration stories in Canada. Many attendees stooped by our table to learn about our organization, upcoming events, and signed up for our newsletter. Most individuals left feeling inspired and impressed with PCHC’s work.
This day could not have been successful without our dedicated volunteers and team. Special thanks to:
Evelyn Wong, our volunteer coordinator, who helped PCHC set up the booth and helped secured our table for Word Vancouver 2025.
KK, an incredibly dedicated volunteer, whose enthusiasm helped draw visitors to our table.
Kayo Devcic, MoM Young Ambassadors Life Coach and Counsellor, who supported our outreach efforts and shared insights into PCHC’s youth engagement work.
Hazel Lising, volunteer coordinator, who assisted with on-site coordination and community engagement.
Ethan Nguyen, web developer, who highlighted our digital projects and helped visitors navigate our online resources.
And finally, Nafisa Golwala, Operations and Outreach Manager, who engaged with visitors, and fostered new connections for PCHC-MoM.
Together, the team worked seamlessly to ensure our booth was not only informative, but welcoming and engaging for visitors.
This event was filled with excitement, engagement, and opportunities for PCHC. Our team was able to interact with several influential individuals, creating space for potential collaborations in the near future. Connections were established with educators, community leaders, authors, all of whom expressed interest in working with PCHC on future storytelling projects, workshops and community events.
A highlight of the day was the participation of our very own Board Director Tariq Malik, recipient of the BC Book Awards. Tariq shared three impactful readings from his award-winning book Blood of Stone. His powerful storytelling not only showcased the depth of his work but also emphasized the significance of migration in shaping Canadian literature and identity.
Word Vancouver 2025 was a spectacular way to showcase the importance of community engagement in the arts and literary field. PCHC-MoM had the change to connect with individuals on a personal level, inspire intellectual and culturally appropriate conversations, and share their mission and vision with a broader audience. The PCHC-MoM team is deeply grateful to the organizers of Word Vancouver for providing this incredible platform to create meaningful connections and lasting impact.
